Older Macs Crash After Installing macOS Monterey, Multiple Owners Claim
If you own an older generation Mac and have macOS Monterey installed on it, just to make it stop responding, you’re not alone. No, it’s not because your Mac is incompatible with Apple’s latest update, but something else is affecting these machines.
Similar issues were encountered with the official launch of macOS Big Sur
A multitude of former Mac owners suffer from the same problem, according to MacRumors. In fact, there are at least ten separate Apple Support Communities posts highlighting the same scenario. This masonry issue can also affect the 2020 models, an owner of the Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro complains.
@Apple So the installation #macOSMonterey literally killed my 2020 16in #Macbook Pro . No start. No nothing. Dead. 18 months … How long is that supposed to run these days? ??
Guys, update at your own risk …

“MacBook pro 2019 after updating monterey, the computer does not turn on at all.
tried the usual suspects (pram, pressing command-option-r, etc.) but nothing. Computer is also perfectly powered but nothing, no chime, no sound from hard drive just dead computer after updating monterey.
looks like a computer without a power supply but it is fully powered “
2019 #Apple #Macbook Pro brick again, the second time in two years. Wow. The ports continue to stop working, not allowing loading, which blocks this. Cannot reset SMC because there is no power. What else could help me determine that I bought a lemon ??? #applesupport @AppleSupport

“I was updating my MacBook Pro from 2018 and everything was fine until the screen suddenly went black and now it won’t turn on. I checked the plug, the cable, the brick, everything. I held the power on for 10 seconds and nothing happened. I have no sign of life on my MacBook.
No suggestion? “

“After downloading the update the installation started and on the first reboot it never came back.
Only black screen. The computer heats up when I plug in a charger, but that’s it. No other sign.
I tried turning on the left SHIFT, Control, Option keys for 15 seconds, but nothing.
Apple may resolve this issue with the release of macOS Montery 12.1. The only downside to this update is that it might not be available for download for at least a few weeks. However, since the news may have reached Apple, the company and its software team will likely work diligently to find a solution, and quickly.
